К 1975 Ричи Блэкмор всё больше и больше разочаровывается в музыке Deep Purple. Но тем временем Ричи Блэкмор все больше и больше проводит времени с музыкантами из группы Elf и в особенности с их вокалистом Ронни Джеймсом Дио. B феврале 1975, когда образовался перерыв в туре Deep Purple Ричи Блэкмор с музыкантами Elf вылетает в Германию для записи своего сольного альбома.
Формально Ричи Блэкмор ещё состоял в Deep Purple, но его все мысли были полностью обращены к новой группе. Иногда забывшись, он начинал играть на концерте Deep Purple материал из Rainbow. И наконец 7 апреля 1975 в Париже состоялся последний концерт Deep Purple с Ричи Блэкмором до воссоединения "золотого состава" Deep Purple в 1984. И в жизни Ричи Блэкмора началась эпоха Rainbow (1975-1984).
